4ms phaseur fleur

bogey
Hi peeps,

just finished this phasor and it fired up first time

Great............I thought

but after a couple of minutes all the leds starting fading so I changed from battery power to wall wart thinking my battery might be dying.

it still passes signal but no effect

then after some prodding around I noticed the 78l09 regulator was HOT.......not great

any ideas where my problem might be?

after a quick poke around with the multi meter I did notice the regulator only seems to be getting a couple of volts from an 8ish volt battery.

It's bedtime now but i'll check back in and do some more investigating when I can.

Any help or suggestions in the meantime would be greatly appreciated.

As always

Thanks Bogey

i think there's a mistake in the schematic.
i'm not familiar with this project or the schem, but isn't it a bad idea using a 78L09 with a 9V supply? the regulators need to get in their input at least +3V from what they suppose to deliver.
i would apply my 9V straight to the out leg of the regulator (with the regulator out of the board) and see what happens..

edit:from the original post, Robert said that too...just saw it....

Isn't feeding 9V into a 9V reg going to give you an unstable, slightly starved output? I'm not really sure why one's been included in the schem anyway, seems fairly unnecessary?

I agree it doesn't make much sense but I've left cause their PCBs on sale include the regulator.
Don't know why.
Removing it and connecting the +9V directly 2 rows above should work.

Thanks to Alex and Savvas for your replies,

I tried your suggestion but sadly no joy.

I think something may have gone wrong on the power side of things....

Another thing I've noticed is that when I connect power to the board the leds on my test box go dim as if the circuit is sucking power if that makes any sense.

I think fresh eyes in a day or two may be the way to go with this one as i'm probably punching above my weight

Thanks again for taking the time to reply and if you think of anything else please let me know.

Well I just spent some time going over by board checking all the usual suspects and found nothing out of the ordinary which was what I expected as it had worked for a short time.

So I decided to swap out all the leds and ic's...............and guess what???????????

YES we're back in business

Everything seems to be working as it should and i'm getting a good range of sounds although some tweaking of the trimmers is still required as mentioned by Sonus Fluxa on the main page.

For the ldr's is just used 6 random tayda ones (I may try to match some up when I get some more), and the leds are standard 3mm red coloured which i'll probably experiment with aswell

As for the regulator, my advice would be not to bother with it as it works perfectly well without. I used a socket for the regulator so I just jumpered from the input to output.

Once again Thanks for the help and advice and have a splendid weekend.
