Hey guys, I got a possibly silly question. I've been building lots of fuzzes to work with bass as well as guitar, and was thinking that it might be a good idea to add a blend control to help preserve some of the natural punch of my bass so it doesn't get lost in the mix. I figure the Split and Blend would be perfect for the job, but two issues of concern.
First is the hookup inside the pedal instead of the as a stand alone pedal as show in the layout. Should it be: IN --> 3PDT IN Lug OUT --> 3PDT OUT Lug SEND --> FX INPUT RECEIVE --> FX OUTPUT Second, would I need to add a booster to preserve output level of the original circuit this is being added to. If so, in front of the blend or after? Third, would I need to do any changes to the blend circuit to keep the low end or should it be fine as is? |
This is correct and should work fine but it depends on the circuit. Some Fuzzes might not like a blend circuit. Also with any Ross compressor circuits, you'll need to use a special blend circuit for that to work.
Just wire it up and you're ready to go!

Cool Geiri. I know you posted a smaller blend circuit that I want to try as well. I didn't know if there is an input or output cap on the added blend board that needs modification. BTW, is there much of a difference between the two in the way the affect the signal, or is the biggest difference the size of the circuit?
Any specific fuzzes I should avoid trying to add a a blend to? I was thinking trying to mod a rat for bass with a blend control, or to a BMP. Also, now I have another question. I know some people add a bass boost switch or treble boost switch. Is it just a matter of having the input cap on a switch or is there something else to it. |
the split n blend works fine if the pedal that you add it to doesn't reverse the phase.
the MXR Dyna and Ross comps flip the phase so it doesn't work with those. if you need one that has a phase reverse switch, runoffgroove's blender works great. here's the ROG blender that I use for pedals that flip the phase: |

Awesome John. Thanks. I've noticed you've a blend control to a few of your distortion/fuzz/od pedals, so thanks for the help. Do you usually make any changes to the input/output cap for the split n' blend to make them bass friendly or is it a simple add on? Also, I've seen you add a bass boost switch, I'm not sure how to add one. Is it just a simple switch with different input caps?

the split n blend needs no mods.
as far as adding bass boost, it all depends on the circuit as to where you raise the value of the caps. |

Cool. Thanks John, you're always a great help. How can you do know where to raise the values to add the bass boost switch? Also, I've noticed you added toggle switch for a clean boost with different db levels on your bassface. Could you tell me how you were able to do that without having a stomp switch and pot to control the output? I saw that and thought that was a really cool idea, and interesting mod that might be able to be used with other pedals.
Btw, all you're suggestions for bass od's, have been freaking great. |
experimentation. you just have to look at the signal path to determine where the HP and LP filters are. I just added a tiny Jfet booster to the master output. |

Ah, I didn't realize the bass boost switches switched out the cap at the HP or LP filter, for some reason I didn't think that was it. Thanks.
I take it that the switch works by connecting the output from the boost board to the output of the switch, and the different db levels are different resistors to ground in place of turning a pot to different locations. Or is that part wrong? How is the boost turned on as just a clean boost when the pedal's engaged? Do you just have the gain all the way down? |
Hi guys,
I want to make a paralooper by moosapotamus also based on a TL074 with the vero from IvIark and i wonder if it's possible to add a phase switch in th loop as in this blender/mixer and how to do it. Could someone explain or show me how to do it ? Thanks, Fab |

Hi John,
I have built this and it works great. But it's different from the ROG one. Please, can you send me a schematic of this one? It's almost this one. Except that there are only 2, 220k resistors in this. |
