FYI: The last batch of 2547s I bought appear to be knock-0ffs - they work, but they do have the same power ratings as the Fairchilds/

They have three colored lines on the round back and say this on the flat side

2N
5457

Thier output is about 1/3 regular 2547s. What about 2n5458s, though, aren't they pretty close in spec and still available?

Well I picked up some SMD versions and some adapter boards... and they really aren't as scary as I assumed they would be.  A slight pain in the ass when you are used to just grabbing a handful of transistors out of a bag, but doable.  Having a solid source of reliable parts should outweigh the extra work.  The boards I bought required some leg twisting, so I've ordered a few more of a different brand that won't require that. If anyone has any sweet boards for sale, let us know. Thanks for the help guys, suddenly all those J201 builds don't seem as daunting.

Nobody seemed to take note of my last question so I will ask again...'

What about 2n5458?   They have the same spec sheet as 5457 and I have found them to be largely interchangeable, they are not cheap (about $.30-cents) but they are available.

There is no similar sub for J201, unfortunately you have to go SMD.
