BE OD and Dirty Shirley squealing

GrooveChampion
I built the BE OD and it squealed, replaced the 120pf with a 470, still squeals but less....I think....I built the PedalPCB version of the Dirty Shirley and it squeals, tried a Klon Buffer(with a TL061) and it squeals even worse....so I guess I should change the cap from 120 to something bigger?

Hey Groove. Happy new year.
I just ran into the same squeal situation with the Diesel VH4, tried a buffer in front as well, no good.
I did try a shielded wire on the input only and the squeal is gone, surprised how well it worked and how easy a fix could be.
 may be worth a shot

OK so heres a question: I saw the DIY shielded wire guide, can I make it with copper foil?

If I remember right a friend of mine who repairs basses used to roll shielded wire that way.
I cant see any reason why it shouldnt work, anyways ;-)

Which version did you build? I have built several now with the ztx-951 trannies instead of 4148 clipping and clean as a whistle. Im considering modifying the layout for the dirty shirley (if it hasnt been done already) for the clipping change to the transistor clipping. Its worth it.

1N4148's, in both of them. Thing is that if I am correct the 120pf cap is the "Compensation cap" like in the RAT(correct me if I am wrong). I put a 470pf in the BEOD and it somewhat mitigated the issue, then I increased that value in the Dirty Shirley to about 680pf, no more whistling.

Yeah man, raising the small capacitor can help compensate but as an alternative i would suggest returning the capacitor to the standard value then adding a buffer beforehand. You will retain some highs and the overall sound of it. The transistor method is only a small kodification and cut tho and completely resolves the issue without the need of a buffer. Easily available from Mouser.

Here's the issue with the transistors: I bought the Dirty Shirley PCB from PedalPCB, and it had the issue and it had pads for the clipping diodes, not transistors. Also, I did try a buffer before and nothing.
