Here is a layout of the forgotten Boss DB-5 which is a equalizer, compressor and a really nasty octave up fuzz. It was a big flop when it was released back in 1977 so it's kind of a sleeper in the Boss line. Not many people seems to like it but listening to some sounds clips online I really want to build one since it sounds kinda like a Fender Blender and Scrambler had a evil baby.
I have done some mods in the layout. First I separated the Dist/Attack 10kC/100kC dual gang pot.
-The 3 pos. slider switch is replaced with a 4P3T rotary.
-There was a now obsolete dual J FET in the octave up section but the layout have room for two standard J FET's (Q3 & Q4)
-BJT transistor have common western world pinout.
-J FET swithing omitted for normal bypass switching.
BUT, this effects needs 12v/-12v bipolar power supply and I'm planning to do a daughterboard for a charge pump based on 18v/-18v. I'm familiar with the trick using 1N4001 diodes in plaace of the 1N5817 to come down to 15v/-15v. Is there a trick to get 12v/-12v? Is voltage regulators the way to go?
