Box of hall heaven within problem

Mabonimus
Hi,

I recently built the box of hall heaven within (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hT03N9VVDvA/UL28rcCB0kI/AAAAAAAADis/g-d_KoAhJlg/s1600/Box+of+Hall+-+Heavenwithin+mods.png) and it sounded great! I then finished up my enclosure and Got the previously working circuit all nicely integrated only to find that the effect no longer works. I am getting sound but it is a continual oscillating type sound, kind of like an oscillating delay pedal.

I first checked the voltage regulator seeing as that's what most people have an issue with, but all is ok (9v in, 0v ground, 5v out).

I have traced through the circuit and here are the voltages:

IC TL074
1 - 8.90
2 - 4.73*
3 - 4.73
4 - 9.41
5 - 1.247
6 - 4.73
7 - 4.73
8 - 4.73
9 - 4.73
10 - 4.73
11 - 0
12 - 4.73
13 - 4.73
14 - 4.73

It should be noted that at pin 2, the voltage would start at these values and decrease. I take it this is not normal.

btdr-2h
1 - 5.00
2 - 0
3 - 4.73
4 - 0
5 - 4.71
6 - 4.71

I am pretty new to pedal builds in general, but is it possible that either The chip or brick could have been fried when installing by e.g. Shorting between a higher voltage track? Any help would be much appreciated. It's really annoying that it was working and sounding sooo good!

Alternatively, perhaps there is an issue with another component?

Thanks in advance for any help!

hi there!
if it was working before boxing, then there is something wrong with the offboard wiring or the board or a pot is shorting somewhere in the enclosure.

first of all, i believe that every single one of us had that very same problem at least once in our building lives!

anyway..there must be something really simple that causes the problem.
i would take everything out of the box again.

check if a pot is shorting somewhere. i had similar problem with a build in which as i was turning the nut to secure the pot, it turned just a little bit and a leg was shorting at the back of an other pot.

verify that your board is working again outside the enclosure.
re-check your 3pdt wirings

if you don't find a solution, post nice clear photos of your build

cheers
and enjoy debugging just like enjoying building!
that's my way anyway!!!

Hi savvas,

Thanks a lot for your suggestions!

I took the circuit out and still the same issue. I removed and reseated the op-amp in the socket, and the circuit now works again! I am going to try boxing up now, so hopefully the pedal will work. I will let the forum know.

Regarding the op-amp; perhaps when I was boxing up the circuit, something happened with the seating of the chip, or removing it altered the state of some internal (or external?) component? Removing residual electrical energy across some capacitor or something? Any suggestions for an absolute electronics noob like myself?
