Can someone identify this component for me?

Hi Guys,  my workplace has an entire cupboard of caps, resistors, diodes etc.  We don't use anything in there so I can basically take whatever i want.  So everyday i take about 20 of everything.  I have quite the collection of stuff.  But i came across something that i can;t identify because the body of the item is so damn small.  I'm using a crappy hand magnifier until my 5 diopter swing arm shows up.  
Any way, it looks like it might be a diode,  it's dark blue, maybe purple,  

3 stamps on it,  1003, k1% and 1.21.

Tried to google it but nothing came up...

Gonna take the dog for a walk and then I'll grab my 35mm and my macro lens to take a pic.

Looks like a 100K resistor. Do you have a multimeter?

Well damn,  It's actually a 1.21K resistor,  the other number not shown in the photo says 1.21 .

I always thought they came with stripes...

Some do, some don't. For example Dale resistors have alphanumeric values but no stripes.

i was thinking it looked like an old dale resistor, but all the ones i've seen are brown in color not blue.

I've got some Dale resistors which are that colour, I've got some which are light blue and green ones too.  But yes most of mine are brown too.

Same here, I have dale resistors that are brown, some that are turquoise, some that are sky blue..
