Chaos distortion as a preamp with LM386 as power amp

I made a vero layout of mark hammers from the main page http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.in/2013/01/chaos-distortion.html?m=1
and a smokey amp from the following link

and wired it up like this  Is it right ? powered it up once.. no sound.. Another set of eyes helps too..

Your diagram looks ok.

Questions:
1. Did you test each circuit separately before you combined them?
2. What is the Smokey output plugged into?
3. Can you post photos and voltages?

I'll keep my eye out for the photos.

Since you don't know which circuit isn't working correctly, using an audio probe will probably be the quickest way to find the problem.

Voltages would also be helpful.

Is it the correct way to measure the voltage?? black lead of the multi meter to gnd amd negative to various pins?? noob

That's correct (technically, the red lead is not necessarily negative or positive, so you could say black to ground and red to measurement point, but that's just terminology). When choosing a ground point for the black lead, go with the adapter or battery ground.
