Chorus Pedals . . Why? Please convince me.

Jederino
Over the years I have allowed this absolute hatred for the chorus effect to brew in mah heart.  Hate em.  I like Frusciante and Cobain's use of them, but that's about it.  And I guess I've always cringed at the idea that they are a fix for a guitar tone that doesn't fill the spectrum, to give a stereo image.

What quality chorus pedals do y'all recommend and why?

Thanks!

I love chorus, but I never ever use it for stereo imaging unless it's a very minor chorus on a clean lead guitar part but that would be done in the DAW rather than recording the guitar with chorus on
see https://soundcloud.com/pstevenson/13-one-moment-in-time-karl

but I do think that if someone uses anything as a "fix" they are doing it wrong - it should sound good to begin with and only enhanced or altered with effects.

I love chorus that gives you a slow warped record feeling kind of like almost vibrato but not as prominent and outside of DSP types the only way I've managed this is by modifying a Behringer UV300 so it is very slow and in the chorus range - it uses the BBD ICs MN3102 (I think, one of the famous ones anyway)
details on how to do it are here if you're interested http://www.paulinthelab.com/2012/10/behringer-uv300-rate-mod-slow-down.html

I think you'd like chorus if you found the right use for them

It also depends on the style of music you play sometimes. Being a fan of 80's metal, a chorus pedal is a must at times.. think Judas Priest solos.. The chorus pedal really helped those jump out of the mix.
