Cornish SS-2

motterpaul
I just built this...

One problem is that my non-polar 1u caps (box) are too big to fit next to a 220uF electrolytic.  If I were to put in a smaller polarized 1uF, the ground would be on the bottom, correct?

I tried using a 100uF in place of the 220, because I have tantalums for those, but when I try the circuit I get a "dying capacitor" effect. It sounds good for a second, then I get volume drop and after that I only get the gated/farty effect.

Any ideas, assuming I get  220uF in there. Could it be bad diodes? I am using 1n270s from Tayda (they look right).

I got this sorted out - seems I missed soldering 1 point - those silver-lined boards can make that hard to see.
