Hey there...
   I want to take the trim pot off the board and replace it with a potentiometer. Would I just use a 5k pot, same as trim pot and wire the off board pot with the same leg numbers as the trim pot?  Thnx ahead...

yep. just do exactly what you describe and you'll be good to go. as for if you want a linear pot or log pot i don't know.
