Debugging On 9V Mains Power vs Batteries

Hello,

I happen to be out of working 9V batteries, and so am hoping to debug a pedal connected up to the usual DC supply of a Boss PSA 240 adaptor.

Is that generally done when debugging, or is the risk of destroying the adaptor and/or yourself with a short circuit too great?
