I just built the Distortron and I found it a little on the brittle side meaning harsh sounding with the Telecaster with Little '59s in Neck & Bridge. It can be masked by putting the Sub switch on 3 but makes 1&2 a bit redundant. I read a comment from a previous builder who found the same issue with his build with the Distortron & Box of Rock layouts. He suggests putting a 470pf cap between the Drain & Gate of
the First Gain Stage Transistor over the 1meg resistor. I did it and I like it way better now.
Try it if you find you are dialling back the Tone control on your Distortron!!!
