Yeah it was a gamble.  As much as ordering from some unknown in china where it's a >50% risk that they're fakes.

So I finally got around to finishing this build.

The 2n496 in q2and q3 sound... meh. Probably because the gains are so low.  I’ll have to experiment with other trannies.

Any suggestions?  I have some 2n1306 that I might try.

I’m going to start playing around with the circuit a little bit in the coming days Tim so I’ll be sure to post my findings. I’m sure if anyone can get it sounding good it’ll be a forum member

I just have germaniums mp38 with such a low gain (about 60 hfe). Maybe I could give them  a try on q2 possition.

Anytime I place an order from smallbear I pick up some 2n2369's. I think they're a buck a piece and usually range from 60-130ish hfe. I use em for the silicon mkll bender on the main page and they sound great in that. Will try em out on this circuit. Should be perfect.

Re: Earthquaker Devices Erupter

i ended up using the following transistors

Q1: PF5102
Q2: 2N4970
Q3: 2N2222a

i also tried 2n5088 (i think) in q3 and it worked well also.
