Expanding on the Acoustic Piezo Preamp

Hi guys.

I've been looking for a preamp for my double bass for a long time. Double bass preamps are expensive and it's hard to justify spending a lot of money on my second instrument.

I was planning on building the Acoustic Piezo Preamp on this site and was first of all wondering; Will it work fine with the frequencies present in double bass playing?

Providing it works, I wanted to then add some tonal shaping. Could I just hook the output straight into a baxandall tone stack or similar? Would I have any issues doing this?

Feedback control can also be a big issue with the old bull fiddle and I know a lot of guys use a HPF for getting rid of some of the boomy low end which resonates EVERYTHING and causes issues. Possibly integrating this into the controls or in place of a tone stack would be great.

I've seen a lot of DIY "solutions" for double bass players out there and none of them really hit the mark as far as I'm concerned. I think figuring this out would help a lot of gigging guys out there manage to get their bass heard without it just woofing uncontrollably.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Just to add on to this, a lot of people swear buy this;

It has some stuff in the manual in the DIY section about a "butterworth filter" and some other stuff I don't understand :p.

It might be a good place for inspiration. There is a schematic there, but getting it onto stripboard might be a bit of a nightmare for me to do.
