You could probably try that out first by putting a buffered pedal in front of it. If you have for instance a Boss pedal or other non-true bypass pedal, you can put it between your guitar and the pedal.

If that stops the squeals, it could be the solution. This forum has a few layouts for buffers. I like what the Klon does to my signal. There is a layout for that on this site.

Here's a selection of a few small buffers that could fit in a box with another build: http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.se/2014/08/buffers.html. I used the smallest J-fet buffer which got rid of the squealing in my Rat.

I also tried putting a boss-pedal in front first, which had the same effect.

I've got a behringer compressor, definately not true bypass, i'll try it when i get home later, and maybe see if i habe the parts to build one.

Started playing with this again today and something occurred to me. Am i right thinking that this version works at 12 volts too? And if that is the case, one would assume it's intended to work at that voltage rather than the standard 9, and might fix my problem?

12V probably won't make an audible difference to be honest.

Did you try a buffer or shielded wire?

What's the reason for having it work at different voltages?

I havent really done much with it in all honesty, i nicked one of the pots to repair one of my guitars so it's just kinda sitting on the workbench...

Pedals can sound different at different voltages. Higher voltages can achieve more headroom and gain. The difference between 9V and 12V will probably be very subtle, the difference between 9V and 18V would be less subtle

The maximum voltage your pedal can take depends on the voltage rating of the components that you used.

I got around to putting this one back together last night and played around with it a little.

No squealing this time..... The only thing i changed was the volume pot from a 470 to a 500k. Also, the last time i used it i plugged it into my marshall amp and my emg guitar. This time i used a much smaller practice amp (10w peavey solid state) and used a guitar with regular passive pickups. I'm gonna try it out a bit later with the other guitar and amp to see what happens

Another thing i noticed though is that the tone pot doesnt appear to be doing a lot, no matter where i set it i get a very scratchy, almost tin-like quality.

It generally has quite a wiry, almost waspy quality to it too, is this normal? I wonder if it's something to do with my dodgy tone knob...?

Somethings not right lad.  Mine has loads of balls and the tone control has pretty big teeth.  Maybe a pic of your most recent build?

i thought so too, both my guitars are solid bodies with hummers, one is tuned down to drop c, even unplugged they sound very bassy, so the tinny aspect tells me something is definately wrong here.

Tried it plugged into the marshall today, i still get the squealing, but now only when i push the volume past about 1 o'clock, and a little more high pitched this time.

Other than the few issues i've noticed, it seems to function just fine, all the switches knobs and lights work, just not how they're supposed to haha

I havent changed anything on it since the last lot of photos i took, the only changes being, i boxed it, and i changed the volume pot.

Let me know if you need better photos, i can take some more later
