Hiwatt Dr103 Tonestack+LPB1

traktop
This post was updated on .
Not so long ago I requested a tonemender with the Hiwatt tonestack.
Now I came up with some ideas where a hiwatt tone stack would be involved. One of them would be the  definitive"Live at Pompeii fuzz". It would be a sort of a silicon fuzzface of choice, (probably a custom meathead), with a switchable hiwatt dr-103 tonestack.
I could use the tonemender, (17 columns- 12 rows), but I´d like to have something smaller and more modular to fit inside different boxes sizes.
I was wondering if someone could draw a layout similar in size to this for me:

Using the following tonestack:

Followed by a LPB-1 booster with a volume trimmer

Thanks in advance.

Wow, that layout came out pretty small. Thanks MAO for taking your time!!
Been out from this site while finishing an Adobe illustrator course, but I will verify it as soon as possible.
Cheers, Gilberto.

You're welcome.

Here is a slightly larger version that lines up the Treble control wiring too.

And verified!
I´ve built the bigger version flipping the trimmer horizontally by 180 degrees and it works like a charm, thanks ;)
Just one thing; This tonestack is such a volume sucker, (about 13db), that it barely reaches unity gain. Do you know a simple way of getting a little more volume out of it without doing the emiter bypass cap thing?
Cheers, Gilberto.

Lowering the 390r will increase the boost.  Maybe try 220r or even 100r

My apologies, I see the issue,.

I cheated off the layout posted at the top of the request, but didn't consider that layout may not be correct.

It looks like the trimmer is not placed properly, the output from Treble 2 should hit lug 3, not lug 2. Lug 2 should be the output of the circuit, not lug 3.

Let me see if there is an easy fix...

I don't have access to redraw the layouts at the moment, but I think this will work.

Remove trimmer
Remove Output wire from Row 1
Add link form Row 2, column 5 to Row 1, Column 3
Add cut Row 2, Column 3 (,or 4)
Reinstall trimmer 180 degrees (so middle lug is closer to board edge)
Connect output wire to Row 2

That should do it, but trimmer will work in reverse.

I will correct the layouts later today.

And if that doesn't give any additional volume, then I was try lowering the 390R as Clarian suggested.

The trimmer is definitely placed wrong, but I'm thinking if you had it maxed out and the volume wasn't enough, correcting the trimmer placement probably won't help with max volume.

I'd start with lowering the 390R 1st, if you get to much volume, then correct the trimmer so you can dial it back.

OK, if you have already started or built one of the layouts above, here is a fix.

See below for a corrected layout dated 06/14/2017

Trimmer will work in reverse with this "fix" CCW=More Volume.

Corrected layout, build this one, not those above.
