Idiot question

Jakeolly
Hi all
Ive built a signal tracing probe to fault find a timmy clone.  ( second build)
the signal sounds fine going into the 4559 opamp but the output at pin 7 is weak and distorted.
Having never listened to a signal as it passes thro such a thing i dont know if its good or bad. The rational human n me says an opamp that makes signal quieter isnt good!
Ive checked voltage at pin 8 and its 9v and other pins are around 5  etc

Have i got a faulty op amp?

I am a newbie. Be gentle
Ta
Chris

It could be that the IC is bad, or it could be that the IC is somehow improperly connected causing it to not function correctly. In other words, it’s not a 100% sure way of saying the IC itself is bad

If you’d like more help debugging the Timmy or any other build, the best way to go about it would be to post the layout, photos of the top and bottom of the board, and voltages in the debugging section of the forum

Thanks travis, you are very kind. Im a bit embarrased about the standard of this , its my first, so i may not post the gut shots, but ill do the voltage things and see how it looks when photographed ! The voltages i mentioned look about right and they were taken from the opamp legs , i assumed that meant it was seated ok?
 Ill do some more work

Thanks, ill be back ( in the debugging section )
