Input level to clean up OD/Dist.

Hey @all,

having built a couple of layouts from the main site (still happy I found this side - great to see people sharing their knowledge just for free ) in the last months I slowly approach the point where some "hey, why not try to..." starts. Cool, even more fun, but with only little background and experience maybe it's clever to talk about it first.

So my question: lots of OD/distortion circuits respond nicely to changes at the guitars volume pot (whithout altering the output level too much!). Isn't that exactly what would happen if we'd place a pot - say 100k - in front of the circuit input (as in the common "main level" mod)?
If so, this could be made (foot-)switchable and would add a second, less overdriven flavour to a drive pedal.

To simple to be true?

Never seen that thing before - and if so I probably wouldn't have belived it's that simple...

Cool, thank you both for the info & links, I'll try that in my OD boxes!
