When a layout like this calls for LEDs and LDRs without calling out specific characteristics of those components, what do you guys use?

Like light and dark resistance for the LDRs, brightness and etc for the LEDs...?

On Harald's website they suggest 3mm red leds and 5k-20M LDRs.
