MXR GT-OD newer boards

Kost1978
Hi all, long time no see!
I know the site is a bit "slow" right now, I red the "Status of Tagboard Effects" post and I'm happy to know that somehow everybody is still around, just doing different stuff as life evolves!
I too don't build so much anymore, after 30 pedals or so I'm preatty much "full", I have two pedalboards working that I use live and still waiting for somethink to inspire me back into building.

Anyway, getting back to business.
Recently I opened up a friend's GTOD to switch it into ZW mode. I wanted to modify it for him to get the switch ouutside, but he didn't want to "ruin" the pedal...

So I bought a used real one really cheap, even if I already built the clone (and it's still on my board!), just to try to put the switch outside for fun.
To my surprise the switch is gone!
But there's a 10k RES on the back of the board, which seems to be connected to the tone cicuit (see pic attached).
If' I'm right, this must be the RES added to convert the ZW44 into GTOD, what do you think?
Please check this page for info on the circuit and schematic:
https://barbarach.com/modding-mxr-zakk-wylde-overdrive/

If my suspects are right, how do I wire a switch with the RES on it and put outside the box?
Do I need a ON/ON SPDT or something else?
Thanks for your help!

Well, I answered my question myself...

I unsoldered the 10K RES and put two cables at the same spots.
Got alligator clips and a ON/OFF/ON DPDT with the 10K on one side and tested some other values on the other.

The ZW44/GTOD functionality seems to be there, I tried 100K on the other side, but no real changes there. So I went the other way around and tried a 3.9K: with this value the pedal has more volume (than the 10K/GTOD position), it seems more "open".

I left it there, soldered everthing, drilled a hole and close it up, now it's good to go!

If anyone has info on newer circuit board with no internal switch and the RES on the back, please feel free to share. I searched the Intenet a bit, but couldn't find clart results.

Ehi Mark,
Glad to catch your reply!

I remember your GTOD layout was what got me into building pedals, back in 2013! I built two different boards and both weren't working...
Then, after some time (2016!!!), I troubleshoot the second one and found the error! And it's still working and being used!
Thanks for your work... And thanks to all the other guys who came later!
I don't post much, but I used this site and forum A LOT and learned a lot and got caught in this passion!

By the way, if it's not too complicated, do you happen to know/understand the technical reason why a 3k9 is more loud than the 10k? I mean, obviously is the value, but what is goin on in the circuit there?
I mean, it seems to me with the switch the 4.5v rail gets connected to the tone circuit somehow.
In theory it seems possible to do the same "volume mode" to any TS type circuit...
Did someone ever tried that in other pedals?
