Mono/stereo pedal

hahafender
Anyone have a layout for a pedal that can take stereo inputs, and switch between stereo outputs or a mono output??

A lot depends on what you want to use it for.

Mirosol made a vero for a 2-channel mixer, which would probably work well for most applications with an appropriate switching scheme.

The active mixer would be overkill for simpler applications, though. For example if you simply want to mix the stereo output of your mp3 player so they can be played through a single speaker, then you should read this article. You could make a very simple box with 3 resistors and a switch, no vero required. If you didn't need to switch between mono and stereo, it could easily be built into a cable.

yeah, i guess i don't have to have a switch. it's for a pedal board. 1/4# stereo in, and it can either go mono out, or stereo out. how do you think i can go about that?

What exactly do you need it for? Will it always get a stereo input,  or will it sometimes get a mono input? Do you want the output to combine the stereo signal, or just take one channel? In what circumstances will you choose stereo output, and when will you choose mono?

The more information you can provide, the better. This kind of utility circuit usually needs to be designed specifically for a given usage.

it will constantly be given a stereo input. just to have the pedal as a choice to come out of one amp, or two if accessible. ideally, the mono output will combine the stereo output, yes.

What about just using two opamp buffers in parallel with the "right" buffer having a switch to take the output to either the right socket, or the left socket.  So the output will either come out of both sockets or mixed at the left.

hmm... sounds like a cool idea... but you have to use a buffer for it? you can't just wire it with a switch?

i wonder if there's a way to do it like stereo pedals that have a mono on one side, but once you plug in another cable, it comes out stereo
