Need some advice for a preamp pedal

Hi guys,

A friend of mine asked me to build a small tube preamp with only one knob for gain control.
I don't recall seeing much tube builds on this site, more so I don't even know if such pedal exists.
Where could I find a layout for this? Or else could you suggest me something similar tube-free?

Well, the only tube like thing I can think of is the Valvecaster. But it has 3 knobs. If not that then I think you should look into the Lovepedal single knob pedals.
