Hey all,
Thought I would share a picture of my first Nutube buy. Actually smaller than I imagined.

I wanted to buy some when they first came out but they’re pretty expensive. I’m interested if you think it’s worth the cost

I noticed the datasheet mentions that these are microphonic and it recommends mounting the Nutube on a shock absorbing pad to mitigate microphonics.

Did it include some type of shock absorber or must that be added separately?

There still pretty expensive at ~£32, but i thought i might as well give one a go. Probably not something i will repeat unless they are awesome. Yes, seemingly they are quite sensitive to being knocked, which doesn't sound good for stompbox use. It didn't come with any sort of shock absorber but i'm sure i saw mentioned that mounting in thick foam type insulation works well. I'll build the Nuverdrive+ with it and see if it lives up to the hype.

I think the issue with microphonics is more pertinent to an amplifier where the tube is vibrating from the speaker but I can imagine that this could have the same issues in stompbox form if the pedal is on a vibrating stage floor

One thing I’m curious about is the “lid on the exhaust hole” on the bottom of the Nutube. I wonder if this is where heat escapes, and if so, I wonder if it may burn the foam

Another thing that I’m curious about, if the pins are soldered to a board, how could the shock absorbing foam pad stop the vibration from transferring to the Nutube via the soldered pins?

I’m sure I’m way overthinking this and I should just buy one..

Specific pin description would be useful for mods eg. heater pinouts and voltage. That way we could implement this element as replacement in real tube DIY preamp or rise overall voltage to 33V by charge pump in traditional stompbox adopted to nutube.

Not sure how much heat is generated by the Nutube. I presume for the Nuverdrive probably very little since it seems to be running at 3.3v. With the pins i was going to socket them and then wires to the board hopefully preventing too much movement. I use pedal velcro to firmly attach my boards to the enclosure so may use some to firmly attach the Nutube as well.
