Paul Cochrane Timmy Issue

I built the none compact layout. The only changes I made was I used a 511k instead of a 510k resistor and I used a JRC4558D IC. It sounds like the distortion isn't fully mixing with the clean sound. When I switch to one of the extra diode settings there is a little bit of a volume drop. Any ideas of what is going on?

The volume drop is normal as it brings more diodes into the circuit. I'm not sure what you mean about the distortion though.
