Pete Cornish OC-1 Optical Compressor

I've built it, but waiting on the right vactrol to make sure it's working correctly.   I have an LED going on, and it's passing signal, just not sure it's compressing correctly with the wrong vactrol (a ST VTL).

If you wanted to drop the buffer, or have it as a seperate board a la Pete, that should be easy enough for you to work out.     And yes there are unnecessary cuts, standing parts and a few other quirks, but hey....

Schematic on FSB, and check out the PCB from Aion Electronics if you couldn't be bothered with finicky and yet tested layouts.   Or you could even buy one from Pete.

Great!!
FX which I want to make increased one more.
Are you a mania of Pete Cornish Pedals?

I don't have BC549C,I can buy only BC550C  at  familiar shop in Japan.
It is listed that BC549C and BC550C have similar HFE and property in alltransistors datasheet.
A mention is not listed in it in Towers-Towers International Transistor Selector.
Do I not have a difficulty even if I use BC550C in substitution for BC549C?

Hi Solderholic,

Yes I like Pete Cornish pedals.   I've made the SS-2 and SS-3 pedals and the NG fuzz (which I think are great).  I've tried the G2 and P2, but I prefer other Big Muff style pedals to these.   They're good, but not that different to others.

This is from the build document.  Other similar transistors should be fine.   https://aionelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/oceanid_documentation.pdf

The original OC-1 uses BC549C transistors. The pinout on the Oceanid PCB is for the U.S. “E-B-C”
convention as used by the 2N3904 and 2N5088. The 2N5088 will operate identically to the BC549C,
but if you do want to use the original type, just note that they will not follow the PCB outline. Typically
they would need to be rotated 180 degrees, but check the datasheet for your brand as they do vary.

Nice work solderholic - that must have been very difficult.  I’ve been doing some point to point layouts lately, but mostly for simple circuits (tone benders)

Hope all is well in Japan.   I really enjoyed my holiday there.
