Proco Rat with Blend

i know this hasn't been requested, but its something that i've built numerous times and had to add a daughterboard for the blend, but it can get annoying to have to add a daughterboard with each build, and it's annoying to have the extra wires, this should help speed up the build. i built a rat that i modded for bass, and added a clean blend, which i have to say is an awesome addition.

i also have played around with diodes, everything from other Si diodes, to Bat's, to LED's, and Ge diodes and each has their own flavor that really changes the personality of the effect. so i thought it would be a good idea to have a diode switch, so i simply modded my layout with the blend so those that don't know where to add the switch can see.

i have not build either yet, but considering i used marks layout as a template, and added the needed rows and columns it should be good to go as long as the blend is setup correctly, and the rat portion matches marks, which i'm certain it is, this is good to go. hope everyone enjoys.

I have been meaning to built a Rat. Just never got around to it.
Now I almost feel compelled too

Thanks mate!
Yeah, 220, 221. Whatever it takes.

IMO it's definitely worth building and having in your arsenal. i typically don't like distortion pedals, as i prefer fuzz and overdrive, but this one i really love. i also prefer mine with Ge diodes to the Si diodes that should be in there. it smooths it out a bit, and has  warmer vibe to it, but still get nasty distortion.

This is a cool idea. Thanks for the layout Zach. I'm finding myself using the blend on the Zeke build a lot, it should be similarly awesome with the Rat.

My bud sent me a vintage Rat to repair and it sounded amazing. The build quality was excellent. Made in Kalamazoo Michigan. Such a badass pedal

nice. i've never played one of the original rats, but i got to play a V2 while they were still made in the us. cant agree more, it's an awesome pedal. btw, i have to build the ezekiel, but have to finish the design for the enclosure first so i can etch it, then the building commences.

I'll be interested to hear what you think of the Zeke. It's kinda blowin me away. I haven't even tried it on bass yet, but damn it kills on guitar

if it sounds half as good as it does in the videos i'm beyond excited. i'm going to try to get it all done tomorrow. i nearly finished the enclosure design.

how exactly does this blend addition work?

The blend is just the simple split and blend, I just put it at the bottom of rat on added rows. The input goes into the blend at G of Q1 through the 100nF cap, then the signal travels to the input of the effect the light the S of Q1 into the original input of the effect, in this case I have the signal traveling directly through the 100nF cap to the 22nF input cap on the board, the original output from the board gets hooked up the the blend pot, the new output is from the blend, and the original signal is buffered and sent to the blend pot through S of Q2.

Just built it. Haven't tested it yet but I found an error in the layout, vs both schematic and original layout.

4.7uF connected to 560ohm and pin 4 of LM308. It's reversed. Cathode should go to pin 4.

Other than that, it's perfect. Great layout! Nice job.

I built mine using the values for the Led Rat/Turbo Rat instead.

I also made myself a switch board for the diodes using some stripboard, a dpdt, 1N914s and 1N34As, and a dual colored led.
Red for Si, Green for Ge.

I can post links to photos once completed and boxed.

Great. I actually made the change as well as a few others when I built it, since it's the basis for a pedal I sell. I completely forgot that I posted this layout. I'll make the changes. Glad you like it man.

Just built this and spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong haha I was building this with Arduino presets, so I thought my project was a bit over complicated for this circuit, but turns out there's an error on the layout haha

The 2x 1uf caps that are bunched together under the lm308, the one on the left should be labelled 1n, not 1u.

I should've went straight to verifying the layout. Such a simple change hahaha

Worked great after though, thanks!
