03/19/15 Fired it up today and having some difficulties, still troubleshooting. I'm losing the signal after U1b at the 15k, 1N4148, 10u junction. Also, I noticed 2 + marks on one of the 10uf tantalum filter caps (column 21, row 5 - the positive should be on row 5, the negative on row 7), updated the layout.   


I won't get a chance to build this for a couple weeks, but I'm fairly confident the layout will work. I won't know until then if any shielded wiring is needed.

The layout has a couple of extra "double" cuts, thought they may help minimize potential noise issues. Probably not necessary, but they will only take a few seconds more to cut, so why not?

The only deviation from the schematic and text was due to space issues, I subbed two 10u tantalum caps for the two of the stock 10u electrolytic caps.

The components are spaced and sometimes angled to better fit the parts I use from Tayda.  

There are 2 options for the bypass LED, taken from the 9V dc rail at top left side of board, or taken off the Vref rail at the bottom right side of the board.  I'm going to try to tap off the Vref rail 1st.  

I labeled the LM833 ICs to correspond with the schematic, in case I need to troubleshoot the layout. I also color coded some of the links for the same reason.

Funny, that just made it all the more worth while, thanks for the laugh!

I have to admit, the 1776 and madbean pcb's are certainly more sane for this size circuit, but using PCBs always feels a bit like cheating to me. Or maybe I'm trying to justify the insanity...

I hear ya on that! I wrestle with the same thoughts. There is a certain satisfaction after creating a circuit from nearly scratch. But, I have opted for PCB's for certain builds so Im not quite as pure I guess, lol

Great layout! I've also uploaded one for the Thunderbird a few weeks ago and I don't think they can get any smaller. If you don't need the battery you can remove the transistor, the 1K5 & 2K7 resistors and use a mono jack instead of the stereo.

Wow, I completely missed yours! I saw Jon Patton's video earlier this week and went to town.

Looks really nice, that would have saved me some time!

I like the way you did the text too, easy to follow.

I used to make my layouts as small as possible. Now, if I have the enclosure room, I go for component fit and  short wiring, mounting as much as I can on the board, such as the CLR and pot grounds. That usually costs me a couple of columns and rows, but to me the time spent on the extra cuts and links pays off when I'm wiring it up in the enclosure.
 
I built your Britannia and Ginger layouts a while back, both worked perfectly. Thank you! Don't know how I missed this one.

How do you get your layout resistors blue and the green LEDs?

Great stuff MAO.   Thanks for contributing!   My T-Bird was a tight fit in a 1590BB with the 1776 PCB, so your layout should be a better fit.

You've brought up an issue that has interested me and maybe we can discuss on Open Chat.  Specifically, is it worth adding extra cuts on veros so that the signal cannot go further than it needs to?  If you can remove signals from unused parts of a given strip, I feel that the potential for noise can be reduced.  Making extra cuts is not too burdensome either and will not affect the circuit operation.  Opinions?  I'll go ahead and repeat this topic in Open Chat so folks can respond there.

This is the 1st layout I tried to shorten up the voltage, ground and signal runs with the extra cuts, for the exact reason you described,  going to make it my practice moving forward.

It will be interesting to see what others think about it. See you over in the open chat.
