Re: Spaceman Effects Titan II

Well I finally built one - thought I'd better because I specially ordered some ferrite beads for it.  I like it - like Mulekicker I'm getting some oscillation with gain over half-way but who needs that much gain anyway??  It's very good with a Strat and does remind me a bit of the Lunar Module too.  It has a nice vocal element to it.

Overall though i prefer my mutant muff based on a Pig Mine.  It's fantastic with a Strat - not as crisp as this but thick and extremely vocal.

I just built the Titam as well.  GREAT dynamics.. sounds like ihe titan has a bit bigger bandwidth than LM.. more bottom and sizzle(in a good way)...they both sound great

By the way...
I got same oscillation at the highest fuzz knob settings as well.. I think it is due to the lay out.
I doubt  owners  of the original titan get same problem:)

I never got rid of the oscillation in mine either.

Must be an issue with the Vero, we have PCBs available over at Deadendfx and they work fine.

I rebuilt it with very same parts but different  layout.
No oscillation

Could it be the missing 100nF Capacitor parallel to the 100µF (from power to ground) that is on the schematic but not the layout?

I don't know... I just pulled out all the parts from this vero and rearranged  the layout on an old blank pcb. Got a messy look..kind of point to point thing but It worked somehow with no oscillation. I can not explain why

hi again,
i just checked my new layout for a 0.1uf cap present in parallel with the 100uf one. there was none
it was  100uf alone. i maxed all the pots and  increased amp volume until it got really noisy with still no oscillation.
then i made an experiment - i made 2 extra holes putting the missing 0.1uf cap in parallel- on and off few times and i couldnt hear any difference in sound/noise.
still havent tried this at extreme volume club levels though, so i will store the 100nf cap just in case :) hoever... i hope this helps
