Project 30 from Craig Anderton's DIY Projects for Guitarists
This cord checker checks for continuity, shorts and most helpful intermittent failures.
The intermittent feature helps spot deteriorating cords before you discover crackling at a gig or when recording.
How to use:
Plug the cord to be tested into jacks 1 and 2, put Switch 1 in the Continuity position, turn on the Tri-Tester with Switch 2. The green "Good" LED should be lit. Wiggle the cord and look to see if the red "Bad" LED lights. If no RED light, continuity is good.
Flip Switch 1 over to the Short position, the green "GOOD" LED should be lit. Wiggle the cord and look to see if the red "BAD" LED lights. If no Red light, no shorts and the cord is good.
Modification:
In an intermittent open or short occurs, the "Bad" LED lights for about 1/2 second. To have the "BAD" LED stay on longer, increase the 220k* resistor to 1Meg.
The jack sleeves need to be isolated from the enclosure (or use a plastic enclosure)
