Vero board layout

I was wanting to get into laying out my own vero boards. How do you know how big the board needs to be by looking at the schematic. I read ivlarks tutorial but I still don't get it. Any help would be be appreciated thanks.

You don't. You may have an idea of what you want though.

Generally you will just start with a bigger board and erase what isn't used
