Which Flanger ?

alltrax74
I'm going to build a flanger, preferably on pcb.
Which one would you advise me and why ?
So far I see the 'Ibanez 301 with tonpads pcb
Or the MXR117 ie Collosalus from Madbean
Thanks

PMowdes

I really dig the Mutron flanger, and the Lovetone flanger with no name. One day I'll make PCBs (I just need to sort out the Lovetone ring mod first)

That's no help to you at all of course but I'll keep an eye on the thread for good suggestions.

The Electric Druid Flangelicious is a good one too, pcb build and you can get the chips necessary in a bundle deal.

I would do the Lectric FX ADA Flanger PCB just because it sounds badass to me.

i've build the collosalus on vero, and i love it. i don't use flanger in more than a couple of songs, but it's great, works great with drives and time based effects. it does the job for me!

I'm a big fan of these old mxr circuits so I think I'll go with the collosalus too, but with madbeans pcb

Madbeans has a good consistent reputation but I think sourcing the parts might be costly. If that fails I am giving a recommendation to Electric Druid, I think its even tap tempo ready.

I'll go with the MXR117 (Collosalus), I can't find enough audio samples of the flangelicious, and none with distortion.
Thanks guys

I recently built an ADA Flanger and it is excellent, plenty of demos out there, seems to work well with distortion as well - I believe it is what Pat Travers used/uses. I made my own PCB which was a mixed success but it looks like there is a commercial one available, wish I'd realised.

Ì couldn't recommend a flanger build if I wanted too, all of mine have ended up as failures. It's like DIY flangers and me are cursed.

I've built 2 Colossalus on vero thanks to Savvas, and they sound amazing... coming from a guy who doesn't like flangers...

Haven't built the Colossalus yet, been on my list for awhile, but my favorite flanger has to be the electric mistress. There's something special about it I don't hear in other flangers, and madbeans has a PCB for it with an effects loop that's a nice addition.
