Are you bothered about the material? Caps that are sold as "box" caps can be made from different dielectrics: If you're not bothered about the type of material, multilayer ceramics are incredibly tiny at 1uF compared to box - See attached pic for comparison of (L-R) 5mm LED, 1u multilayer ceramic, 1u box cap (brand unknown)

If it has to be a box cap, I can't help, but if you just need as small as possible 1uF, I would second nocentelli's suggestion and use a MMC. They are so useful for tight spaces.

It doesn't have to be a box cap.

Are mlcc caps more noisy than film caps?

not in the slightest, at least in my experience, and i've used them in many builds where space is tight.

I was gung-ho about the box caps but those mlcc's sound pretty damn good and are obviously much more board friendly.

ok i know Tayda is going to be cheaper, but i just did a quick check on mouser for MLCC's, 1uF, 5% tolerance and the cheapest cap is over $2 CAD:

which is more than double the smallest EPCOS/TDK film cap:

edit:  10% MLCC's are more reasonably priced. i'll give em a shot on my next build!

Here you go - 100 for £1, can't say fairer than that:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hot-sales-50pcs-Capacitor-1uF-105-50V-Monolithic-Ceramic-Chip-Pitch-5-08MM-Z-/191187402932?hash=item2c83a840b4:g:-E0AAOxycD9TW82M

I would suggest you buy an assortment pack like this - (I bought one from this seller):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10pf-10uf-600pcs-30value-Multilayer-Monolithic-Ceramic-Capacitor-Assorted-Set-/111022072323?hash=item19d96e6203:g:hJ8AAOxy6MBSRqw8

Then top up with bags of 100 at a time when you run out.

Honestly Tim, these little suckers are an absolute Godsend.
