Trying to get better organized with my builds - specifically, the internal wiring, and I was wondering if anyone used a certain color coding 'convention': obviously red and black for power, and I have been using white for un-effected (input) signal and blue for signal out (from board).
After that, though...*shrug*. I know it can be 'whatever you like/works for me/etc.'...but trying to color-code as much as possible helps me to identify the circuit path a bit better. As in, I can look in the guts and see 'purple' wires and know that they're from the tone pot, the green is for signal to/from the jacks, and so on. I was just wondering if there was any kind of convention or precedent for the 'other' wiring paths, or if I'm over-complicating things. Thanks, all. |

I do
Red = power Black = ground (or green for ground in circuits with a dual supply voltage) Blue = anything in the signal path Yellow = pots White = switches or anything else not covered by the above
Through all the worry and pain we move on

Red and black for pos and ground
Green input Brown output and then whatever takes my fancy for pots. On an input gain pot i generally stay with green. Then again its entirely up to the individual. No right or wrong imho. |

I just.. use the colors used in the layouts haha.
Blue for volume and output, yellow for gain etc. I like to use one color, makes it look more tidy(to me) but because writing on in is less tidy to me too, I get way confused when testing or debugging. Plus, for each and every friend I built a pedal, I wrote a message on the inside, and no one has ever noticed it. So I stick to the colors in the layout. |

For me There's really only 3 consistencies I follow. Red and black for positive and ground respectively, and input and output jacks white. Other than that I keep wires from each pot the same, and try to avoid repeats. For me just doing that I can quickly debug layouts and ensure connections are going to the right places.
I also leave notes on all by builds for customers, plus put there name, build date, my signature, and sometimes a drawing. |

I use the 22 gauge solid core from Tayda.
I use white for the input. I use green for any "gain" or "fuzz" or "distortion." This is because green means go, and also that song "Green Fuzz" by the Cramps. I use yellow for tone. I use red for 9V+, and black for the ground. I use blue for volume and output. Sometimes red though. |

Red: Powah!
Black: Ground (used to use blue for a long while) In and out: shielded wire (used to be grey) Lug 1: yellow Lug 2: white Lug 3: green switches: brown, orange blue, purple, grey and whatever else I need. In the old days of when I started out with BYOC kits I used the same color wire for everything, as you only got a single color strand with your kit, but that obviously makes tracing a nightmare. I buy my wire from Smallbear but it did took some time to finally get all the available colors, as shipping costs and customs duties meant I had to keep the orders small to only two rolls of wire each time. |

Hello ,
For the potentiometer not to deceive me I always do like this: paw 1 = Blue paw 2 = White Paw 3 = Red Easy to remember it is the red white blue flag of my country France in the order For the mass black For the red + for the in jack the green in blue circuit footswitch the jack out the yellow the out circuit the orange led - the black the + the red sometimes of course I make changes but not for the potentiometers and for the more and the less. the in and out also it is well in my habits now :) to + |
