capacitor issue from E bay

vick
just want to run something I bought some 120 nf capacitors of Ebay for a traingle Big Muff.  I had several issues with the build and now I am getting sound from it but it has a tin can sound like a realy low value cap is stripping all of the base.

the caps I bought were
http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-50V-120nf-0-12uf-Capacitors-/390156216011?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D6799458110314183396%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D390156216011%26

labeled with 471 J.  When I look up that code I am seeing it as 470P.  Before I complain I want to make sure I am not missing something.  I do not have a capacitor tester was this part mislabeled?

471 to me would mean 470pF and the symptoms you describe would be what I would expect if you used that sort of low value because it cuts much of the low frequencies.  Incorrectly marked up auction as far as I'm concerned.

okay I desoldered the caps and replaced them with 100n's everything thing sounds good now.

this ended up being the build from hell
1 forgot a cap all together
2 had 2 of the polarized caps facing the wrong way
3 one resistor misplaced by a row
4 120n caps ended up being 470P

GGGGGGGGGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Mark yes that is a terrible deal for 50 470pf ceramics, however I thought I was getting 50 120nf Panasonic's which would have been a okay deal.  I have opened a case with e-bay.

Again thanks for all your help.

I don't think they're ceramics, they definitely look like poly caps to me and they do them in that value.  $11 does seem expensive though, even for 120n caps.  I buy 50 Panasonics for much less than that (although to be fair they don't have 120n ones, but you know what I mean).

A build from hell you say....

I made a Greenringer.. no sound... cut it all... changed all the caps... nothing
Made another, same issues.. tried all different pots, switch etc..
Tearing my effing hair out then noticed I put a transistor in the wrong socket..

I went upstairs and cried for an hour!!
