for those of you who have built a klone

when you dime all the controls does your build squeal?

i recently made a pcb for a klone and when i get the treble up in the last 10% of the range it starts squealing especially when the drive and volume are maxxed.

I don't remember the tagboard versions that ive made doing that, but i don't think i ever tried diming everything.

also, i don't think this is a charge pump issue.

i've tried a few SCPA variants and max1044 with the same results.

i want to know if this is a routing issue on my board or if the circuit inherently oscillates.

None of the klones I’ve built have squealed (pcb or vero ).  Does yours have the input buffer?  I think that would play an important role in preventing squealing.

Yes it has an input buffer.  I’m not sure if it’s because I did a Vb flood for the top plane instead of individual traces and there’s some noise getting thru or if I might have some traces too close and there’s some feedback oscillation happening.  I guess I’ll try again but make the top a ground plane like the bottom so it will shield adjacent traces better.

I fixed a real Klon that was squealing once . He was using a power adapter that was supposed to be 9v it was only 7v . Low power can cause squealing in those . Some of the ones I have made squealed when the battery was almost dead as well . The 7660s can be an issue I bought many that were fakes .

i only use charge pumps that i get from mouser.  don't have time to deal with troubleshooting sketchy charge pumps.

it's weird tho.  when i had both circuits in the same enclosure there was squealing. when i put each circuit into its own enclosure it was deal quiet. i wonder if there was some kind of weird ground loop happening.
