Hi all,
Curious to know where you get your caps. Tayda seems to have limited monolithic ones. Anywhere else comparable that has a nice large list of monolithic values?

Thanks!

They seem to be on holiday, but you'll get all the values you want from a combination of these shops:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/tiaochongyi
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/electronic-alice

and this one has some really cheap ones, I just bought a couple of 200 lots for £3.21 each

Which values you find you need most of, for the type of circuits we build here? Which ones need refilling most often?

Most frequently used for me would probably be 10n, 22n, 47n, 100n.  But I have a full set of multilayer ceramics from 10pf to 2.2uf.   When the first two links I posted are back from holiday, you can get 100 caps in some values for £1.90 per 100 delivered, so it didn't end up costing too much to build up a nice stock of them.

Probably the best way to do it would be to build a list of what you intend to build in what order, and then order the caps you need for those builds first.  It always helps to plan ahead with these things.

Yeah, that's what I normally do but I invariably end up with more components than I know what to do with.

I try my best to keep tabs on what's ordered to build what, but by the time Tayda ship comes in I've changed my plans so many times that there some components are orphaned even before they reach me.

I'll be sure to throw some money in the direction of the sellers you mention, though...
Like my grandma used to say...a fool and his money are easily parted.

The multilayer caps are excellent, so it's always worth having plenty even if you don't know what to do with them all.  I would normally choose to use poly caps first, but these and the axial multilayers are really good for tight spots, and for spots that require a 2.5mm pitch like the filter caps used with the PT2399 builds.

I've got one of these in the mail somewhere

I do like my box polycaps but as you correctly stated, they can certainly be too bulky sometimes...

Yes they're the same type I've got in a lot of the values.  They do have a 5mm pitch and so are great for poly substitutes, but look neat enough when you bend back one of the legs and then out again at right angles for a 2.5mm pitch.

Thank you all, seems like ebay is the way to go. I did like Tayda's multi pick for the resistors as It essentially let me build a 'assortment' to my liking. I'll hit ebay for the rest.

Thanks again
