grounding

ham_phist
Hey all,

How do you tackle projects where you have to run a bunch of stuff (pots, input, board, etc) to ground? I've done a couple builds now and this seems to be the toughie. I was thinking I could just make a little strip of vero and run all the wires to it, then run one wire from it to ground on the DC jack. Any reason that wouldn't work?

Yes, that will work.

Most of us "star" ground to the output jack ring tag - all the ground wire are soldered to there - plus another ground wire connecting the output jack ring to the input jack ring tag. This is not strictly needed, but will help if one of the jacks works loose.

You could also connect your ground wires to unused holes on your circuit boards' ground row.

Alternatively, like Travis does on his builds, star ground to a crimp eyelet tag (solder it after crimping just to make sure) that is bolted to the inside of the enclosure. If you do this, make sure you sand any trace of paint away from that location, to ensure a good contact between the crimp tag and the enclosure.

Doing a little vero "ground row" was what i thought best when I started, but it didn't really worked for me. Cable may snap, detach, get tangled (tangled wire? never heard of it  ).
What I do is connect 2 wires in every lug and make it linear. Pots and sockets have lugs big enough to solder two or three cables. Then again, I have completed maybe 10 projects and don't have the experience of the great builders
