the itch to build something cool has struck, but i have no idea what...
Part of me wants to play around with a FV-1 DSP and the dev kit, but i'm not sure if I want to invest that kind of time right now (though shimmerverb would be awesome!) any suggestions? |
Build something you haven't built before. Chorus? Reverb? Multi-effects? Then there are the 300+ fuzzes we have here...

Sometimes having too much choice makes it that much harder ;)

Synth stuff doesn't really interest me.

*sigh*
i do have to agree with that comment. my build list is so long now i don't know were to start to build for myself. i have so many builds i have to do, especially some legendary fuzzes i just don't know what to do first and i end up not building for me. |

I'm not building much at the moment, made a lot of fuzz pedals and a few trems and a meatball I'm happy with and have kept on my pedal board. I have several commercial delays and phasers and an octaver that are too hard to build better than I can buy fairly easy, so I'm lacking the motivation to do much more than breadboard interesting circuits for amusement. The most recent build was just a dual looper with an order switch, but it's a lot of fun to play with (especially with a sample looper with my DIY meatball and the trems) and to check out the best order for ODs and fuzz pedals; I also bought the EHX superego synth, which I couldn't hope to build, but it can create some really cool sounds and it's also given some new ideas about diy stuff I might make to use it with.
There's nothing wrong with taking a break from building endless pedal and having fun playing some guitar for a change, or building some useful utility stuff like looper, buffers, switchers etc, or breadboarding hardware like a transistor matcher, I/O breakout box, clipper switcher/cap selector, voltage booster or inverter, whole beavis board etc |
Something like this might be a nice diversion:
I picked up a couple of non-working practice amps. A Park G10 and a Fender Squire Champ G15. 10 bucks for both of them! And I found the schematics online. Might rebuild both preamps with Marshall and Fender emulating pedals and stick with the original poweramps. Maybe add a belton reverb and effects loop too. The Fender's power IC was toast, but the power supply and speaker are fine. I buggered up the board though trying to remove the IC. I'll probably end up rebuilding the whole thing with something else, hopefully on vero. Maybe a Wampler Black '65 with the original power section. I already have a SK7650 which looks like the equivalent of the original power IC. I got the Park working by re-soldering the pots, but a couple are real scratchy. Doesn't sound to bad as is, but was thinking I might replace the preamp portion anyway with a more touch-sensitive Plexi-sounding circuit. Probably a Wampler, Barber or ROG. Will take a modular approach with the preamp and power amp so I can swap out the preamps if/when I get bored with them. Going to start with the Fender as it's not working at all. Depending on how that goes, I'll either rebuild the Park too or just replace the pots. Anyway, should be fun.

I think this is going to be my build list:
- combine my test box, variable power supply, and sine wave generator into one box. - DIY solder fume extractor - will attempt to verify the soldano x99r circuit that i posted a few weeks ago - magnus modulus build |
