modulating clock speed of BBD?

notnews
I was listening to a demo of Mr. Black's Downward Spiral and had a thought about how an effect like this could be achieved. In the Spiral's case, I'm pretty sure he's using DSP or something like an FV1 to get these sounds, but I was wondering if there was any way to get modulated delay times like this in maybe more unconventional ways.

As far as I know, you can use an LDR to modulate what would be the delay-time VR/pot, and get pitch shifts as a function of a changing delay time due to the intensity of the LED/envelope.

But would it be possible to achieve a similar effect in a BBD circuit, maybe by modulating the clock somehow? The only intimate familiarities I have with delay effects are PT- based.. I know a bit about BBD, and very little admittedly about DSP/code- based delays.

Anyone have any thoughts about this?
Stupid? Or does something like this have the potential to create interesting sounds?.. even if they're more noisey and unconventional?

oh.. and HAPPY THANKSGIVING, tagboard fellows who celebrate the day! I hope everyone has a great holiday.
