piggyback transistor trick.

Has anyone made one of these to replace a germanium trans yet? I'm interested in hearing how the results ended up.

I've heard it mentioned but I think it still needs quite low hfe transistors, all mine seem to be geared towards high gain for some reason :D  I'd be interested as well but seeing as I've just took the plunge and ordered my first batch of Germaniums to sort through I guess I'm going to have to try some of those first.
