For me There's really only 3 consistencies I follow. Red and black for positive and ground respectively, and input and output jacks white. Other than that I keep wires from each pot the same, and try to avoid repeats. For me just doing that I can quickly debug layouts and ensure connections are going to the right places.

I also leave notes on all by builds for customers, plus put there name, build date, my signature, and sometimes a drawing.
