Well c'mon man if you have no idea then you could have asked us or at least let us know that you never tried testing it with the right type of power supply before declaring the project useless.

If you are still unsure, the answer is yes you need to use the correct power supply, and I do not say this to patronize you, although my last reply was intentionally smart-assed
