Tune Tone
Hey guys
is this transformer here is the one we are talking about ? it is missing the '-r' in the end of the model so I'm guessing if this would do...

thanks!

I can't tell you if the '-R' matters, but i don't think so.
Maybe Mark SL can let us know which one he used

As long as it has 1.5K primary and 500R secondary, I guess the -r is not important.
If so, you can also use the 42TU011 for this.

Just got her up and running. Nice job and thanks again.
I just have one question. My lower octaves display a slightly ticky pulse. It is not overwhelming  and I can live with it but was unsure if it was just the nature of the circuit or if I had a small fault. Can you tell me which if any of the ic's is responsible fo the lower octaves. I was curious if swapping it for another of the same value might smooth it out a bit.

If that's just the way it is, it's still a supper cool effect and has a lot of versatility.

If it helps answer my last question, I used a LM386L as it was all I have on hand.

The lower octaves come from the CD4024BE. That part of the circuit seems to be based on the Slacktave, or at least is very similar to it. (Maybe EQD came up with the idea independently, I don't know.)

I don't know if swapping the chip will help, but it's probably worth a try. It's also probably worth reading this, this, and this. There may be more threads with good ideas. Try searching 'slacktave' at DIYSB.

Yeah, I'm getting the ticking too. I bought two TI CD4024BE from Mouser and they both tick. Very frustrating, seeing as everything else works fine. Not looking forward to buying more chips to try if they're all gonna do the same thing.

I haven't swapped mine yet. I may try it tonight or tomorrow. I'll let you know what turns out.

Re: Earthquaker Devices Bitcommander

Pedalhead
Thanks.

I guess if I can't get it working properly I'll take out the low octave section (remove the two 220K resistors, the 1uf electro above them and the chip - I think that should do it) and just have the upper octave & regular fuzz as they sound good and I really like being able to blend the two.

I did get my Rockett WTF build working a treat, great effect. I moved the 47p up to the top two vero rows as the layout has it incorrectly going to from Q2 base to ground - incorrect that is if the posted schematic is correct, which has it going from Q2 base to emitter. I can't seem to post on the project pages, so might as well offer that info here. My Phantom Octave build wasn't so great. It works but not as well as the WTF.

I just reassembled my original Bitcommander and i have to say it's not ticking at all. Even though it's connected to a long signal chain with several effects. Swapping the cd4024 could fix the problem probably.

I don't know if it would work but (looking at the Slacktave) have you tried grounding Pin 2 of the CD4024?
Don't know if it would make a difference with the ticking.

I auditioned several 4024s and found one that was a bit better. it doesn't tick until the decay of the note, which is very quick. I tried a boost in front of it but it choked things up.

I will try Alex's recommendation for grounding and let you know.
