Finally a Big Muff!

Kinski
Well I finally made a big muff that I love. I did nothing revolutionary nor really worth going into detail about. Just played with a few resistors, caps and transistors to tune it to my ears. Also ended up using a three way Mids toggle for scooped, flat-ish, and heavy boost. 5nf / 10nf / 22nf.

Sounds like a fat overdrive all the way to your amp exploding, without ever having insane amounts of distortion.

Never played or built a muff that I've liked at all, till now. I love how you can change a few component values and turn a circuit you hate into a circuit you love. DIY FOREVER!

So what version of the Big Muff did you build (there are about 50 of 'em)?  It's still on my build list...

I started with the Civil War. But then I socketed the emitter resistors, ceramic caps, and a few of the other caps to tweak bass and mids. I also ended up using some SE4021 transistors.

Tune Tone sent me this link. It was extremely helpful. The chart below lets you know what every component does.

Great stuff ...

Now I must get around to building a Muff

Everyone needs a at least one muff laying around.

I have about 6, Javi has a whole harum at his place.

Well I have an original Muff Fuzz, although its not a pedal as such, just a small metal box with one knob and a slider switch.

A 'proper' Muff is on my list and probably its a '73 version.  I would like to get close to the Gilmour Muff, but gawd only knows what is in that box, there are so many slight variations.  Probably means I'll have a vero full of sockets to try different components until I find what I like

haha, or you could just do what EHX did back in the day. throw your components up in the air and randomly choose the components you only by looking at the type of component, rather then the value. then simply place them on the board and BAM!!! you got an awesome big muff.

consequently, if that's too messy for you, just take all your components into a pitch black room and try to select the components. you'll get the same results as above and less mess.
