This isn't really a new idea. Back in the hippie days, when playing guitar barefoot, or in moccasins a la Jimi was normal, Ludwig was ahead of that curve too. Case in point, the Phase II...
Nice big machined aluminium mushroom caps, that were secured to the footswitch via set screw. Of course, like all things Ludwig of this period, many were lost over the years. I had to replace a couple back in the day when I owned two of these beasts. In fact, I miiiiight still have a drawing for them. Somewhere. Maybe.
Considering how much pain was involved in repairing and tuning these beasts, I suppose it was the least they could do was alleviate some of the operational pain.
Alas... all the hippies are now either dead, in prison, or freeze dried, so I suppose some "Look at me!" generational bling aspect is to blame for this resurgence.
