Footswitch Toppers and Barefoot Buttons

Has anyone started using these on their builds yet? I like the idea of playing barefoot, but every time I do I struggle to hit my stomp switches. Especially the momentary SPST's that you have to hold down... those hurt like a mother!

The barefoots that Smallbear sells are obviously superior in build, but they are ridiculously expensive, especially when play through as many pedals as I do. Has anyone tried the ones below on the standard 3PDT's that Tayda sells, and if so, how do they fit/feel? Also, I would like to know if there are any that people have found that will fit the momentary SPST's, since they are smaller in diameter. I know Barefoot sells a smaller model, but again, those are just too expensive for my tastes.

I wouldn't even dream of playing barefoot. Or in socks as some of you seem to do judging by some of the demo vids. Converse Allstars, or one of the cheap copies, works best for me, as they don't make my feet too wide, as some boots or shoes do.

So this is a solution to a problem I don't have. Although methinks if you want to play barefoot, or in socks, nothing beats the switching systems of Boss pedals. As wide and comfy as you can get.

Well, I'm about to date myself here, but whatever...

This isn't really a new idea. Back in the hippie days, when playing guitar barefoot, or in moccasins a la Jimi was normal, Ludwig was ahead of that curve too. Case in point, the Phase II...



Nice big machined aluminium mushroom caps, that were secured to the footswitch via set screw. Of course, like all things Ludwig of this period, many were lost over the years. I had to replace a couple back in the day when I owned two of these beasts. In fact, I miiiiight still have a drawing for them. Somewhere. Maybe.

Considering how much pain was involved in repairing and tuning these beasts, I suppose it was the least they could do was alleviate some of the operational pain.

Alas... all the hippies are now either dead, in prison, or freeze dried, so I suppose some "Look at me!" generational bling aspect is to blame for this resurgence.

Well, I just like to play at home in my bare feet, I'm not really doin' it to be cool, man. I bought some super-cheap ones on eBay, of which I'll post my opinion, even if it is looked upon derisively:)

Yep, the cheap ones work great. It's nice on a pedal board where you have one pedal that's lower than the others. Not very great if you have a tight-fitting case for your board, though. I like them, give 'em a try!

The cheap ones work on regular 3PDT footswitches. I have several of those Mooer Candy Footswitch Toppers (in black). So far no complaints. I had bought quite a few as I have a MIDI controller with 6 switches, but those are momentary switches with a slightly smaller diameter. The cheap ones do not fit on these momentary switches, so that sucks. I didn't want to fork out a lot of money for some toppers, but if you have momentary switches, I guess you'll have to ...

If the hole is too small you can drill it out to make it bigger or if the issue is the top of the switch is round you can use a drill to round the inside of the hole. Just be careful not to go through the top.
