Hi Alex,
Don't have any dual gang pots, i presume i can split between two 250k pots instead until i buy them in?

Ok, having some issues with this one. Checked thoroughly for bad solders, solder bridges and went through to check all components and links in the correct place. Here are my voltages, bottom 5532 doesn't look correct at all.

   1044            5532(bot)          5532(top)     J201      5089
1  8.57            0                       4.25          G 3.42   E 3.5
2  5.03            0                       4.25          S 3.42   B 2.8
3  0                 0                      4.17          D 8.57   C 8.57
4  -3.48           -8.47                 0
5  8.46            0                       4.21
6  3.7              0                       4.25
7  4.02             0                      4.26
8  8.57             8.57                  8.57

Thanks for any help.

haven't had time to look through this, but there is no way the bottom 5532 should have that many legs at 0V, cause that means they're all grounded. when i look at the layout quickly, i don't see anything that would indicated that should happen. i know you said you did it, double check the build and re-cut between the tracks. i'll investigate more when i get a chance tonight.

On your MAX1044:  Pins 1 and 8 should be ~+9V and pin 5 should be ~-9V,  3 is ground, 7 and 6 are unconnected.  Your voltage at pins 5 is not right - check this out.  Good luck!

Thanks guys, I am sure its something i have done wrong its just you know sometimes you just can't see it. I will thoroughly check it once i get back from work.

I just saw that pin 4 on the second NE5532 is -8.47V so your MAX1044 is probably OK.  The zeros on the remainder of the pins other than 8 indicate a problem so look there.

I'm curious to hear how this circuit sounds.  It's similar in topology to the Maxon OD820 and so should perhaps have a similar sound (or maybe better).

Another one verified. Seems my J201 was a fake, also i had a bit of track lifted where the switch connects to the top left of the board so moved it along one hole an voila. Trying to use up some cheap tagboard which really doesn't like too much heat and stinks of phenol when heated.
This is a nice overdrive with lots of variation to be had. I used 4n7 for C1 and 2N5089 instead of the 6429 and BAT 85s for D4 and D5. Not experimented with different values yet but am quite pleased with the result. Will experiment later as have a few more problem builds to have a go at this afternoon.

Again, thanks Alex for your sterling work.

I got it to work with a 7660s. I like it but it seems like the gain sweep is very minimal. It's basically all gain the whole way. I'll try a different taper than linear and see how that sounds.
