Son of Clay Jones for Bass

Hi, I've just built a Son of Clay Jones Overdrive and i'm really happy with it on both my Les Paul and Telecaster guitars. So I tried with with my bass and it really sucked all the low end out. Great quality overdrive but very thin sounding. Does anyone have any advice how I can boost the bass or maybe cap swap outs to make it more bass friendly? It would be awesome to be able to run this stock or switchable for bass. Any suggestions?

Typical mods to allow more low end would be to first increase the input & output caps this will let more bass in and out. You may need to play with the values of the high & low pass filters too. If the tone sweep isn't suited for bass you may want to play with the values of the tone stack.

Yes start with increasing the 22n input cap and probably also the 220n to the right of it.  I'd suggest socketing so you can increase them both until you get the bass content you're looking for.

completely agree with mark, i usually socket the input and output caps, so i can sort everything out to get it where i want for my bass. also, it might be worth checking out the bass TS, to see what values are the same and different, since the SOCJ is based on a TS.

Just saw this post now not having been on here much in the past few weeks.

As a TS descendant it might be worth reading this very interesting article by Jack Orman that touches on the matter of the TS's low end and how to boost it/change its response. Hope that helps!
