Switch instead of Volume

beardy80
Hey guys, a bit of a noob question here.
I'm thinking of building a SHO into an old guitar for a bit of fun. Is there a way to replace the volume with a switch so that I can switch between unity (or close enough) and a boost. I thought of a bypass but I would like the SHO in the circuit all the time as I like the benefits from it.
I'm guessing the same thing could be used on other circuits too? If you could give me an idea of the theory behind it too that would be amazing!
Cheers in advance guys and awesome site :)

It would involve replacing the pot with two resistors. You should set a pot at unity/boost levels you like and measure the pot resistance between outer and middle lugs. Then, choose the resistors accordingly and wiring the switch itself shouldn't be hard with a small daughterboard

Unless, what you want is to switch between unity gain and pot controlled boost, that should be even easier

i did it with my old guitar too. i've repeared a washburn that didn't work for 12 years...i've changed everything inside and put the "demeter fat control".

i've used a switch to be able to choose boost and no boost for the reason that you need a battery for the boost, and in case that battery is dying, you can turn it to standard mode..it is my best constraction till now, not only cause i gave life to a dead guitar, but i made it sound 10 times better.

the most usefull and fast video that helped me was this one

This is exactly what I would like to do.
I had an idea that it would involve two fixed resistors to give me two levels, unity and a boost. I'm struggling with wiring the switch and daughterboard.
I'll take a look at the youtube vid it sounds interesting.
Cheers for the help guys

Is there any chance somebody could draw me up a quick layout to replace a pot with two switchable resistors?
Thanks in advance

Quickly drawn. SHO volume is a simple variable resistor so you only need one value per one switch level. Choose R1 and R2 accordingly to what you like, by measuring resistance between Lugs 2 and 3 of the pot to see what the desired resistances are. Switch is SPDT On-On.
You actually don't even need vero to do that, just hook up resistors straight on the switch with the free ends connected to grounds.

Absolutely fantastic! Thanks a lot :)
Sorry for the late reply I've been away
